If you want to go drag racing, the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is a great option. The ready-to-race machine comes straight from the Ford factory with most of the modifications and parts necessary to blast down the quarter-mile as quickly as possible. Now for 2016, Ford has updated the Mustang Cobra Jet's suspension and cooling system.

As always, the 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet is based on a production car, albeit with no VIN, a Whipple supercharger for its V-8 engine, a racing-specific suspension, upgraded brakes, a roll cage, racing seats, a drag racing automatic transmission, and a trunk-mounted racing fuel tank. Ford says the car can run an eight-second quarter mile as it comes from the factory. For a reminder of just how quick that is, a 707-hp Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat needs a whole 11.2 seconds to blow through a quarter-mile.

Changes for 2016 include the addition of a new four-link rear suspension design; Ford notes that while the road-going Mustang now has independent rear suspension, the Cobra Jet still has a solid axle. The car also scores a new water-cooling pump from the C-Max Hybrid. Because the pump is electric, it can still push coolant through the engine even without the car running, allowing racers to better manage the engine's heat between races.

Just 50 units of the 2016 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet will be offered, with 25 painted Oxford White and the other 25 Deep Impact Blue. Potential racers can order the car, part number M-FR500-CJ, at Ford dealers for $99,990. Adding a graphics package costs $1,995, and a wheelie bar is another $1,995.
