The Lamborghini Aventador Superveloce roadster may debut as soon as September's Frankfurt auto show, and these spy photos show the wild new car testing without camouflage. As seen here, the Aventador SV roadster will use a carbon-fiber removable roof panel, which reportedly helps keep the car's weight gain over the coupe model to about 110 lb.
Compared to the existing Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 roadster, this new SV model will pick up the pace in the same manner as the LP750-4 Superveloce coupe. Under the glass cover behind the cabin, the 6.5-liter V-12 engine will be amped up to 740 hp and 509 lb-ft of torque, with a more aggressive suspension, more aerodynamic downforce, and reduced weight. With its 7-speed single-clutch automatic transmission sending power to all four wheels, the SV coupe hits 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and manages a top speed of 217 mph.
This Lamborghini Aventador SV roadster prototype wears several body cues seen on the coupe: enlarged front air intakes, a more aggressive front splitter, and extra air intakes above the car's rear fenders. Curiously, it lacks the enormous rear wing that helps push the Aventador SV coupe to the ground with as much as 480 lb of downforce at 174 mph, but the wing could simply have been removed for testing purposes.
Lamborghini plans to sell only 500 examples of the Aventador SV roadster, compared to 600 of the coupe, and the open-top car's price tag should easily dwarf the $493,095 sticker of an SV coupe. Look for more details in the coming weeks.
