Audi is bringing a high-performance version of its R8 supercar to the 2014 Los Angeles auto show with 570 hp on tap. The 2015 Audi R8 Competition is inspired by Audi's successful R8 LMS ultra racing car, and will be limited to just 60 cars.
The 2015 Audi R8 Competition comes with the car's 5.2-liter V-10 engine tuned to 570 hp, a gain of 20 hp compared to the existing R8 V10 Plus. Coupled with Audi's seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic, the R8 Competition blasts to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and can top 199 mph -- beating the V10 Plus by 0.1 second and 1 mph, and making it the fastest-ever factory R8.
Other unique touches for the 2015 Audi R8 Competition, some of which we saw when we spied this car a few weeks ago, include gloss-black exhaust tips, gloss-black wheels, carbon-ceramic brakes with red calipers, a carbon-fiber rear wing, and carbon-fiber canards. Carbon fiber is also used for the mirrors, side blades, splitter, diffuser, center console, and door sills with illuminated "R8 Competition" logos. Atop that, Audi will allow buyers to further customize the upholstery, wheels, and color of their R8 Competition from a long list of choices.
Audi plans to sell just 60 copies of the R8 Competition, all of which are destined for the U.S. market. Though a price has not been disclosed, we can safely expect it to exceed the cost of the existing top-of-the-line 2015 Audi R8 coupe, the $183,750 V10 Plus S tronic.
The special-edition model serves as a swan song for this generation of the Audi R8. As our Sneak Preview story revealed, an all-new 2016 Audi R8 is just around the corner.
