Lexus's brand tagline has long been "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection" -- but perhaps no car lives up to this mantra quite like the LFA Nurburgring Edition. According to Tweets from Lexus Europe andEVOmagazine's Chris Harris, a Lexus LFA Nurburgring Edition managed to lap the Green Hell in 7:14 seconds, making it the fastest time ever by a mainstream automaker.
Lexus driver Akira Iida piloted the LFA and the posted time ranks as 4th or 5th place overall for a production car, surpassed only by such niche models as the Radical SR8, Gumpert Apollo Speed, and the Audi-powered Donkervoort track toy.
As its name implies, the LFA Nürburgring Edition has been tuned to better tackle the most challenging racetrack in the world. It sports carbon fiber side fin spoilers, a front lip spoiler, and an oversized rear wing spoiler for added downforce. The 4.8-liter, V-10 gets a bump in horsepower to 562 from 552 in the "base" model LFA and the six-speed transmission shifts gears in just 0.15 seconds.
No video of the event has been released quite yet, but for those looking some idea of how the LFA behaves on the ring, here's a clip of Hiroaki Ishiura flogging Lexus' masterpiece on the Nurburgring -- albeit abitslower.
